Governor Hoeven Names Enova Medical a Finalist for North Dakota’s Centers Of Excellence Awards

$2.5 Million Grant Pending Legislative Approval

Oct. 10, 2007 – North Dakota Governor John Hoeven announced on Sept. 28 that the state’s Centers of Excellence Commission approved a new jobs creation and economic development project led by Enova Medical Technologies and the University of North Dakota (UND).  If the project is authorized by the state’s Legislative Budget Section and Emergency Commission, total funding will be $2.5 million.  The award will be contingent upon Enova and UND raising matching funds.

“The projects demonstrate how our North Dakota universities are skillfully combining education and economic development to create higher paying jobs and new business opportunities in our state,” Hoeven said in a press release.  “The quality and diversity of the projects reviewed reflects the level of leadership and innovation at work on our campuses and in our business communities.”

The “Center of Excellence for Biomedical Device Research, Development and Commercialization” will focus on Enova’s existing exclusive license on an issued patent relating to clot removal in blood vessels.  Its mission will be to provide a research, development, and commercialization resources for a range of biomedical devices.  Over time, the Center will conduct multiple, concurrent projects for various biomedical companies and cities, thereby providing the potential for economic development throughout North Dakota and the region.  The Center will create approximately 100 jobs in the Minot area over the next two years, and more than 500 jobs by 2012.
